The Director

Fr. Albano Fernandes

Fr. Albano Fernandes hails from Grande Pedda, Benaulim, Salcette Goa and is the eldest son among the four siblings. He joined the Seminary Niwas in the Eleventh Standard (St. Xaviers Higher Secondary, Mapusa) and continued his journey (Rachol Seminary) to become a Priest on 2nd May 1997. He celebrated the Silver Jubilee of his Priestly Ordination on 2nd May 2022. God has blessed him with various experiences during his journey of Priesthood and continues to be with him.

After the Ordination, in the year 2000, when the Church was celebrating the Year of Faith, he went to Tripura, Diocese of Agartala, to serve in the Missions. He served the missions for three years as per the contract but something tragic had happened at the beginning of this journey. He, along with Fr. Philip Neri Dias arrived in Tripura on 17th June 2000. On 25th July 2000, while his was going to another mission along with Fr. Victor Crasta, CSC and Fr. Paul Puddusery, CSC, they were attacked by the militants. In this incident, Fr. Victor Crasta died on the spot while Fr. Paul Puddusery lost one of his eyes and Fr. Albano survived with minor injuries. This tragic incident didn not deter him from continuing to serve the poor people of Tripura, especially the tribals, until his term was over.

After returning to Goa, he continued his priestly journey serving the flock wherever he was sent with love. In the year 2008, he was selected to pursue further studies in Pastoral Counselling and so he went to Chicago, USA and completed his Masters in Pastoral Counselling in the year 2011. He did this in the prestigious University of Loyola, Chicago. Even before he could go to pursue his studies in the USA, he was involved in the family apostolate as the resource person for Marriage Preparation Programme and as a member of the team of Family Missions which were held in various Parishes under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Socorro Mendes, who was the then Director of DFSC.After returning from Chicago, he was posted at Holy Cross Shrine, Bambolim. During his tenure of five years, he served as the Pastoral Counsellor of the Archdiocese helping many individuals, couples and families who sought his help and guidance in their difficult and challenging situations. He assisted the young seminarians at Saligao Seminary and Seminary Niwas, Duler by making himself available to them for counselling. He also was a visitor at ASRO a project of Caritas, Goa where the children affected with HIV were housed and taken care off.

After completing his term at Holy Cross Shrine, he was transferred as the Parish Priest of St. Agnes Church, St. Ines. This was his first Parish as the Parish Priest. He served his flock for four years. During this time, the Archbishop appointed him to be the Director of the Diocesan Family Service Centre. He assumed this new responsibility on 01st July 2021. He is also appointed as the Spiritual Advisor of the two Family Movements working under the Centre, i.e. Missionary Family for Christ and Christian Family Movement.

Currently, he not only shoulders the responsibility of the Family Apostolate in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman as the Director, but he continues to help couples, individuals and families by making himself available for Counselling. He strives to take forward the vision of the Centre which is to build Happy, Healthy and Holy Families.
