Final Message of the III Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops , 18.10.2014

[B0768]

III EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY
OF THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS

MESSAGE
We, Synod Fathers, gathered in Rome together with Pope Francis in the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, greet all families of the different continents and in particular all who follow Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We admire and are grateful for the daily witness which you offer us and the world with your fidelity, faith, hope, and love.
Each of us, pastors of the Church, grew up in a family, and we come from a great variety of backgrounds and experiences. As priests and bishops we have lived alongside families who have spoken to us and shown us the saga of their joys and their difficulties. Continue reading

Synod Hall
Saturday, 18 October 2014
Dear Eminences, Beatitudes, Excellencies, Brothers and Sisters,

With a heart full of appreciation and gratitude I want to thank, along with you, the Lord who has accompanied and guided us in the past days, with the light of the Holy Spirit.

From the heart I thank Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, Secretary General of the Synod, Bishop Fabio Fabene, under-secretary, and with them I thank the Relators, Cardinal Peter Erdo, who has worked so much in these days of family mourning, and the Special Secretary Bishop Bruno Forte, the three President delegates, the transcribers, the consultors, the translators and the unknown workers, all those who have worked with true fidelity and total dedication behind the scenes and without rest. Thank you so much from the heart. Continue reading

Prayer to the Holy Family (For the success of the Synod on Family)

POPE FRANCIS

Prayer to the Holy Family*

 Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

in you we contemplate
the splendour of true love,
to you we turn with trust.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic Churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again
experience violence, rejection and division:
may all who have been hurt or scandalized
find ready comfort and healing.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may the approaching Synod of Bishops
make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer.

XIV ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY

LETTER OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL

TO THE EPISCOPAL CONFERENCES ACCOMPANYING THE LINEAMENTA

Vatican City, 12 December 2014

Prot. N. 14270

Your Eminence / Excellency,

As Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, I am happy to write to Your Eminence / Excellency in the wake of the III Extraordinary General Assembly held last October to treat the topic: The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization.

As you know, the final document of this extraordinary synodal assembly, the Relatio Synodi, is the preparatory document or Lineamenta of the XIV Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled to take place from 4 to 25 October 2015, to consider the topic: The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World. In this way, the two synodal assemblies, sharing the same topic of the family, become part of a single synodal process, which includes not only the two celebrative phases but also the intervening time between synods, a time to reflect on the reaction to the first synod and to make a thorough theological examination of the Church’s pastoral activity in light of the succeeding one.
